GRAND CHAPTER OF OREGON – ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR
BENEVOLENT FRATERNAL ASSISTANCE BOARD

April 6, 2009

TO:  Our Eastern Star Subordinate Chapter Members

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Another year of our Grand Chapter is drawing to a close and it is time to think of the reports that must be prepared for our Grand Chapter Session.

Your Benevolent Fraternal Assistance Board has received inquires regarding possible assistance during the past year, however, there were no applications completed, therefore, it was not found necessary to make any withdrawals from the fund.

Our fund is growing slowly and steadily with the assistance of our Financial Advisor, Brother Bud Smith but in view of the present economic situation in our Grand Jurisdiction it is very apparent that considerable thought needs to be given to increasing this fund for the use and benefit of our membership.  It is quite evident that we may be receiving requests for assistance from this fund given the current situation at our Masonic and Eastern Star Home.

Your Board is in the process of reviewing the requirements for applying for assistance from the Fund and has hopes of establishing a more confidential method of applying, thus eliminating any unnecessary embarrassment for our members.

In the meantime we ask that you continue to think of this Fund when making your charitable donations.  In this respect, if your Chapter has not found it necessary to use the amount sent aside for Relief, we ask that you give consideration to donating that amount to the Corpus of the Benevolent Fund, which is invested and then we are able to use the earnings for our members should the occasion arise.

Your Board sincerely appreciates the donations that have been received this past year and extend heartfelt thanks on behalf of any of our members who may benefit from your giving.

Sincerely and fraternally,

JoAnna P. Foster, Chairman
