Earth Angel Newsletter October/November 2007

Dear Earth Angels:

I hope that many of you can attend our next meeting in La Grande on Nov. 17th and the reception that evening in Elgin for our Grand Conductress and Grand Sentinel. It will be quite a weekend, because on Sunday Nov. 18 th there will be a Grand Initiation in Union at noon. The Grand Officers are scheduled to do 3 Grand Initiations: the first one on Nov. 18th in Union at noon, followed by one in Grants Pass on Dec. 2 nd at 2 PM and the last one in MacMinnville on Jan. 12th at 2 PM. I hope that many of you can attend, as we all know it is nice to have sideliners and I know our initiates would really appreciate it and so would the Grand Officers.

Mark you calendars for Dec. 7th, at 9 AM, when we will meet at Jennings McCall (the Oak Street entrance) to decorate Christmas Trees for the residents. This is a fun time for everyone, as we decorate the trees and then deliver them to the residents. Please bring some ornaments to add to the ones we already have and even some tree toppers. We will all enjoy lunch together for a nominal charge. I will need to know how many will be staying, in order that the staff can plan lunch for us.

Christmas Party, Christmas Party. The Earth Angel Christmas Party is December 8th at Victoria Chapter. See the notice elsewhere in the newsletter. Please bring a Christmas ornament to exchange and some canned food that we can donate to a local center.

I hope that your year is as enjoyable as mine has been, but it's just going too fast. I am looking forward to each Grand Visitation with eager anticipation. You are all so special and greet us with such warmth. Thank you.

Happy Holidays to you and your families.

Earth Angel love,
Sharon

Dear Earth Angels,

It was great to see those who turned out at Barzillai #16 in Albany. We were small but we were mighty. Thanks to Dianna Barr, WM, and Bonnie Strong and the cooks for hosting us and taking care of our nourishment with a fabulous Potato Bar.

We were able to install our final Earth Angel Officer, Shari Durgan, Treasurer. We now have a complete set of Installed Officers.

Sister Patti and I have had some Oak Trees made into both a Tux Saver and a Pin which are available at $5.00 each with all proceeds going to Home Endowment. There are also available the Session Charms and Pins from WGM Sharon and me.

I am receiving monthly reports from those Committee Chairmen who are on fund drives for OES. They and their committees are diligently working to raise funds and I thank them for doing so. Also, a big thanks to those who are donating.

The Task Force continues to solicit "specific issues" you may have for the betterment of our Order. You may wish to solicit your Chapter Members for their issues to forward on to the Task Force or I would be glad to receive them and pass them along.

I hope to see you all at our next meeting November 17, 2007 at Hope Chapter in LaGrande. If not, seasons greeting to you and safe travels through the remainder of this year.

One of the LAWS OF THE UNIVERSE is the "Law of Dirty Carpets" which states "The chances of an open-faced jelly sandwich of landing face down on a floor covering are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet."

Fraternal Love,
Hunt M. Compton
Worthy Grand Patron

From The Prez

Happy Autumn, everyone. We had a great meeting on October 13th. Even with the small group we managed to get a lot of business done and have a good time visiting as well! Try to get out and come to the Earth Angel luncheons and meetings when you can. We'd love to see you there.

Our year is going so quickly. Before you know it, the snowflakes will begin to fall, then spring will be sprung and what happens after that? Grand Chapter, of course! We want to make the "Garden of Friendship" session extra special for Sister Sharon and Brother Hunt so start thinking about your plans that have to be made to get to Pendleton, the projects that have to be completed, and the good times we will have together. We are Earth Angels now and forever. I'm just so proud of our group of Worthy Matrons and Worthy Patrons. You are the shining example of what the heart and soul of Eastern Star is all about – caring and sharing.

Take care and I'll see you in December. Star love, Michele Gardner

Earth Angels Luncheon and meeting

This month's luncheon will be on Saturday, November 17th, at Hope Chapter in La Grande at noon. Please call Sister Blanche Davis, our 2nd VP (503-363-8787) by the Tuesday prior to the meeting, which will be 11/13. If you are on the "permanent list", you need only call if you CANNOT make it. For those who didn't notice my typo last month, the December 8 th, meeting is at VICTORIA Chapter #176, in Turner NOT Victory Chapter, which used to be in Portland.

Editors notes: Thank you for your generosity in pre-purchasing the stamps I'm using on the mailings. I am currently sending out ALMOST 100 "snail mail" copies per month. I can still add you to the online mailing list, just let me know ( TheFrogPrincess@gmail.com/541-890-2167). Also, I had an Eastern Star/Masonic "Signature Quilt" from Whitewater, Missouri, circa 1957, donated from a lady who wanted it to go to someone "who would love and appreciate it". WGM Sharon and Sister Patti, head of Home Endowment, have allowed me to hold a drawing for the quilt, at the Grand Visitation in Medford in April. I have tickets for $1 each or 6/$5, and I would be happy to send them up North. We'd love to have a good showing for Mrs. Saylor's memories, and for the Home Endowment. Pictures of the quilt are included in the online newsletter. We received a "Thank You" note from Brother Hunt Compton, WGP: "Earth Angels: Wow! What a basket of treats. Thank you all for such a wonderful turnout at the WGP Reception in Salem. Your attendance was overwhelming and your addendum was absolutely great. The basket gift was adorned with porcelain oak leafs with bells, truly unique. It is currently hanging from a display "tree" we have in our living room. The contents of the basket included a large Squirrel and Acorn, a Squirrel T-Shirt, Deluxe Mixed Nuts, a Coffee Mug with oak leaf, and a bag of Hazelnuts and Acorn Belgian Chocolates. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and best wishes to each of you as you lead your various Chapters this year. Hunt.
